Saints WR Rashid Shaheed named to Pro Bowl as return specialist

The New Orleans Saints only have one Pro Bowler in 2023, and it's a well deserving one in WR Rashid Shaheed, who was named to the NFC's roster as a return specialist.

Shaheed's selection marks the 16th consecutive season that the Saints have had at least one player selected to the Pro Bowl, and the first time for a returner since Deonte Harty in 2019. Tyrone Huges (1993) and Michael Lewis (2002) also made the pro bowl as returners.

Shaheed, who was signed as a UDFA out of Weber State prior to the 2022 season, ranks third in the NFL in punt return average (14.0). He's returned 23 punts for 321 yards this season, including a 76-yard return for a touchdown in Week 3 against the Packers. Shaheed has also continued to emerge as a receiving threat, with 43 receptions for 654 yards.

The current format of the pro bowl won't allow for returns, but it will offer many opportunities for Shaheed to show off his elite athleticism in the multi-day event that ends with a flag football game at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. The game will be televised from 2-5 p.m. on ESPN.
