Saints' Sean Payton attends former Curtis, TCU LB Garret Wallow's Pro Day

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton took in TCU’s Pro Day Friday and among the prospects he was able to get a close look at was former Curtis standout Garret Wallow.

The senior, who lead the Big-12 with three forced fumbles and finished second in the conference with 90 tackles, also had some time to meet with Payton and Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule, who also attended the Pro Day, Horned Frogs head coach Gary Patterson said.

Wallow, who said he had a Zoom meeting with the Saints linebacker coach Michael Hodges earlier this week as well, enjoyed having head coaches at his Pro Day but said he was focused on making she he left a good impression on the NFL personal in attendance.

“I definitely think I helped myself today especially doing both linebacker and safety drills… I definitely think I helped myself out today,” he said.

Wallow played safety at Curtis and earlier in college career before moving to linebacker full time. He said that playing in the secondary helped making him a more versatile player and improve his coverage skills.

He’s showed that versatility along with a knack for making plays during his career at TCU. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound prospect tallied 32.5 tackles for a loss, 9.5 sacks and an interception during the four seasons with the Horned Frogs and he’s confident he’ll be able to have similar production at the next level.

“I think it’s going to take a lot of film study, that’s the reason why I make all those plays now, so I definitely do have the capability of doing it,” Wallow said. “It’s really just knowing where I’m at on the field, what type of defense I’m running and just keep growing as a player keep getting smarter… and putting myself in perfect position to do what I do best.”

He added that he believes he could play multiple positions in different defenses if asked to.

“I definitely see myself as an outside linebacker, a guy who can cover and fill gaps and make tackles so Im definitely an aggressive player. I’m also a physical player as well,” he said. “But really wherever a team needs me needs the biggest fit I'm willing to play that position.”
