New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton joined WWL Radio's Sports Talk Tuesday night and discussed the retirement of quarterback Drew Brees.
Payton shared stories of some of the more lighthearted moments between he and Brees with hosts Bobby Hebert, Kristian Garic and Deuce McAllister including some of the pranks Brees pulled on him throughout their 15 seasons together with the Saints.
Payton said he'd recently been bragging to Brees about new showerheads he'd purchased that spray "three times the amount of water."
"Next thing you know, Breeze had conspired with Jameis (Winston) and Taysom (Hill) and Mickey Loomis," he said. "And I came home after a game, and I had a certified letter at my house from the water board, and it was explaining that, 'Hey, you're going to need to see us regarding your water usage.'
"And I was like, I'm thinking right away, someone's getting some front row tickets. We got to get this fixed. And so come to find out the name listed was a movie character. And then the phone number was Mickey Loomis' number. And I'm getting ready in the office to call Mickey.
"I don't know Mickey's number. I just have it under Mickey Loomis. And Brees
comes in. They're laughing."
Payton said that there's so many of those stories involving Brees throughout the years and that those are the types of moments he'll miss not that the quarterback is retiring.
"The biggest thing any of us miss when it's over, when the train stops for all of us, it's a unique work environment where you see everyone day after day after day, and you don't ever take it for granted," Payton said.
"But the camaraderie, the uniqueness is met with humor and pranks and jokes and all sorts of things being here together that long."
