Saints legend Drew Brees has yet to announce a decision about his playing future. The 41-year old left the field this past Sunday for possibly the last time after 20 seasons; so what’s the plan at quarterback for New Orleans?
“I’m excited about Jameis Winston, I’m excited about Taysom Hill,” head coach Sean Payton said sounding confident they can bring Winston back after inking him to a one year deal.
“That position is important, it’s vital and that’s why we payed attention to an offseason signing like Jameis or keeping Taysom here. We knew there’s a chance at some point in time we’ll be dealing with a transition and we're going to try to be as prepared as we can when that times comes. I really like the prospects of those players, having seen both up-close & personnel.”
Winston left a great final impression tossing 1 touchdown on 1 attempt in the Divisional Round loss against his former franchise from Tampa Bay.
Hill was not active last outing after suffering a knee injury in the Wild Card win over the Bears. He went 3-1 filling in for Brees as the Saints starting QB in the regular season, completing 82 of 114 passes with 4 TD and 2 INTS along with 4 rushing touchdowns.
Hill finished his 4th season in New Orleans gaining 457 yards on the ground, with 98 receiving and 928 passing, accounting for a grand total of 13 TDs.
The Saints Swiss Army knife will be going into the 2nd year of his 2-year $21 million deal next season which should make for hot training camp chatter.
Will Jameis or Taysom win the starting job if Brees retires?
