The defense of the Saints has gotten off to a slow start allowing 30 points per game which is 9th worst in the NFL. The run defense has remained stout in 2020, but at times the pass defense has flat out been embarrassing, giving up touchdowns with no one around leaving guys left looking around at each other with their hands up.
“It is just small things as far as me and the secondary period. It's just small things becoming big things,” said cornerback Marshon Latimore.
“We've just got to eliminate those big plays because it starts from everything before, like eyes and communication. It's really just small things turning into big things, we've just got to eliminate that and we'll be alright."
A big thing is that there is a communication issue in the secondary which has given up any eye-popping 15 touchdown passes in the first 5 games.
“We have to clean that up and just be on one page so we can go out there and play fast,” explained Lattimore. “A lot of plays is just communication and eyes. Small things that become big things like I said, if we fix that we'll dominate.”
Lattimore and the rest of the Fleur Di Lis D could dominate Sunday against a quarterback and offensive coordinator they know very well.
Teddy Bridgewater has taken over as the main cat in Carolina after spending 2 years in New Orleans learning the Saints way under Sean Payton and staff along with Hall-of-Fame QB Drew Brees.
"Teddy is one of the best. He's a good dude, he's my friend,” said Lattimore “He's a great quarterback and he knows I'm great corner so we're going to go at it. I'm ready for it."
Bridgewater was reunited with Joe Brady in Carolina. Brady spent time on the Saints staff from 2017-18, then moved on to Baton Rouge where we saw a lot of the Saints concepts help LSU win a national title. He then moved-up the coaching ladder, getting the Panthers offensive coordinator job under new head coach Matt Rhule.
