Trade for Davante Adams? Saints reportedly a preferred destination for star Raiders WR

Do the New Orleans Saints suddenly have a difficult decision on their hands?

Star Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams has requested a trade, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, with the Saints named one of his preferred destinations.

That news makes sense, primarily considering that the Saints' quarterback is Derek Carr, a player that Adams teamed up with in college at Fresno State and with the Raiders for xx games. The other noted destination is the Jets, with former Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers. You may be sensing a trend.

The question for the Saints can't be production-based with Adams, who has rolled up 890 catches, 10,990 yards and 96 touchdowns over his impressive 11-year career.

The next two questions will be chemistry and cap related. Adding a veteran player that you expect to be a major piece of your offense midseason has ripple effects down the roster. The Saints would also be leveraging their future salary cap moreso than this year's. They'd have to weigh that and the compensation it'd send to the Raiders against the potential upgrade, but it's clearly something they could pull off if need be.

Adams has missed time with a hamstring injury prior to the trade request, but he has been productive this season thus far with 18 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown. The Saints have primarily relied on third-year pros Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed to the tune of 35 catches for 517 yards and 3 touchdowns. Over the past three games other pass catchers on the roster, including tight ends, have combined for just 12 catches for and 49 yards over the past three games.

Even with an Adams trade, it'll be the current offense under Klint Kubiak that will be tasked with ending a two-game losing streak against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.
