More than 75% of customers lose power in Zeta

Zeta

Officials say that more than three quarters of the power is out in the region after Hurricane Zeta passed through.

In Jefferson parish, authorities say with approximately 83 percent of the parish without power, it is straining the sewerage system.

"Due to widespread power outages throughout Jefferson Parish... residents are asked to limit all non-essential sewer services as much as possible during this time - this includes washing clothes, cleaning dishes and showering. Residents can continue using their essential sewer services, such as using the bathroom," the parish said in a news release.

The fear is that if too much goes down the drain and it cannot be pumped to treatment plants, the system could start to backup.

Entergy reported 176,618 outages as of 8:00pm in Jefferson Parish.

The power outage numbers are much the same on the Northshore.

CLECO said that with some 68,000 customers out in St. Tammany Parish, that was also about three quarters off all customers without electricity.

Overall, Entergy reported 438,496 in the region. Of those... 156,296 were in Orleans Parish. That's 78 percent.

As much as 94 percent of Plaquemines is without power and 80 percent in St. Bernard.
