As COVID-19 infections continue to rise in the U.S. and more people receive COVID-19 vaccine shots, a group of Canadians have created a community for the unvaccinated.

Visitors to The Freedom Pages website can find dating, employment and social opportunities among other resources, according to the site’s homepage. Its approach is a bit similar to the well-known site Craigslist, but it is not affiliated with that site.

“The Freedom Pages is a vision born from the devastation wrought by the measures instituted in the name of fighting covid – an online directory that seeks to connect freedom loving Canadians with like-minded businesses who not discriminate based on personal beliefs or medical status with respect to face coverings or vaccinations in particular,” said the site’s description page.

According to a Vice News report, 70 percent of people in Canada eligible for COVID-19 vaccination have received their shots. In the U.S., only 50 percent of those eligible have been vaccinated as of July 31, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A recent poll indicated most unvaccinated Americans do not want shots.

While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued guidance in May that vaccinated people could stop wearing masks indoors, at least come parts of Canada (including Ontario) still required face coverings indoors as of July 31. By July 30, the CDC reversed its previous guidance to recommend masks in indoor areas with a high risk of transmission.

Data from a July COVID-19 outbreak in Massachusetts that showed 74 percent of those infected were fully vaccinated informed the new guidance. Scientists recommend vaccines as well as masking in order to prevent infection from the strong Delta variant of the virus, which is more likely to lead to hospitalization for the unvaccinated.

Vice News reported that anti-lockdown activist Steve Berger created The Freedom Pages after several groups for unvaccinated people popped up on the Telegram app. According to the outlet, this app has been adopted by those on the far right as well as anti-vaxxers and anti-lockdown conspiracy theorists due to its relaxed posting rules.

Other social media sites, such as Twitter, have banned former U.S. President Donald Trump and others for sharing posts with false claims. Berger is also connected with a

A man who identified himself as Steve Berger said he is also planning to develop an app in a video posted by YouTube user CanadianSpartacus.

According to The Freedom Pages description, it is run by a group of volunteers. Vice News said the site is also affiliated with an app called Staffing Call. Both are looking for beta testers, said the outlet.
