Carnival Corp. says its 2022 cruise bookings are running ahead of 2019 numbers, a sign that guests will return once the pandemic has eased. Carnival’s Costa brand, which operates in Italy, is scheduled to restart operations on Jan. 31. Miami-based Carnival said it is working on resuming cruises in the U.S., Asia and Australia over the course of this year.
Carnival Cruise Line has cancelled all U.S. sailings through March 31.
Over the past 40 years, damage from major weather and climate disasters has cost the U.S. nearly $2 trillion. A closer look at the data reveals that recently the cost of such incidents has been escalating quickly, due in part to climate change. According to NOAA’s assessment of the biggest weather disasters, the economic toll rose from an average of $17.8 billion a year in the 80s to over $81 billion a year in the 2010s.
