What can bosses do to keep their employees from walking out? Avoid these three things, according to CNBC.com:

1. Not praising employees enough
2. Not being an honest communicator about the state of the business
3. Only focusing on what’s going wrong


Business expert Mark Rosa says sometimes the first and last ones on the list really get people, describing what it is like for employees who work hard, do well, but never get validated for it: "This guy is out of control a lot of times and he's upset about one thing or another and we have to hear it."

Rosa says most employers tend to play it close to the vest when it comes to the state of their business, though.

"Many employers, I know for a fact many employers, are a little bit conservative about circulating the company books," he said.

Rosa says it's been his experience that workers like bosses who can be flexible with them, too.

"We all have to go get a brake tag, we gotta get our license renewed, we're gonna have to go get tires, someone's going to be ill, can I come in a little later and so on," Rosa explained.

He says the pandemic forced a lot of bosses to be more flexible than in the past, and employees want it to stay that way.
