American cutting direct flights from New Orleans

Travelers will no longer be able to take a nonstop flight from New Orleans to Austin in October after American Airlines cut several nonstop routes to
popular destinations. Removing MSY will reduce around 4,000 monthly seats, according to Simple Flying, and is one of many significant changes
that the Texas-based carrier is implementing. American Airlines is also ending nonstop daily flights from other major cities to Austin, including Las Vegas and Orlando.

British oil giant  BP  has reported stronger-than-expected net profit for the second quarter and raised its dividend despite previously warning of significantly lower refining margins. The oil and gas major posted underlying replacement cost profit of $2.8 billion for the second quarter, which beat analysts’ expectations. The energy firm announced it had increased its dividend by 10% to 8 cents per share.


And on Wall Street, stocks are starting the day on an up note, with all three major indices making gains. The NASDAQ had the strongest start, rising more than 300 points at the bell. Oil prices also started the day higher, gaining $2.25 in early trading to approach the $77 per barrel mark.
