Now that Joe Biden is President of the United States, he is already making changes to some Trump-era policies on fossil fuels. The changes aren't being welcomed by some Louisianans.
President Biden talked a lot about clean energy in his campaign, and UNO economics professor Walter "Dub" Lane says that does not mean a whole lot of growth opportunities for oil and gas.
"It's likely they will be looking for ways to not be expanding oil drilling and oil production."
Mr. Biden has already canceled the Keystone XL pipeline, which brought immediate criticism Congressman Steve Scalise and a group of representatives known as the House Energy Action Team.
A statement from the group reads "President Biden’s decision to rescind an essential permit for the Keystone XL pipeline puts thousands of present and future union jobs at risk and undermines the trust of our friends and allies in Canada who have invested billions of dollars into the completion of this vital pipeline."
HEAT is also critical of President Biden's decision to bring the United States back into the Paris Climate Change Accords.
One area of business that Lane says the Biden Administration could be helpful to New Orleans in is tourism -- if the new administration can accomplish its goals to combat the pandemic.
"If Biden is more successful in getting the vaccines out, that will take us a big step towards renewing our tourism," said Lane.
