Car-rental chain Avis Budget Group reported quarterly results that beat expectations, helped by a rebound in travel demand that it says has extended into the current quarter. Avis says demand is strong, its commercial business is performing well above 2019 levels, and the leisure segment continues its strong performance, especially over the holiday period.
Among Sunday night’s Super Bowl ads, dogs were the big winners. USA Today says a touching commercial for dog-food delivery company Farmer’s Dog Inc. that tracked a chocolate Lab’s relationship with its owner from puppyhood to old age was our favorite. Two more ads in the top six featured man’s best friend, from Bud Light and Amazon.
Freeport LNG has exported its first cargo since an explosion and fire shut the Texas facility in June.
Futures are mixed after stocks posted sharp gains yesterday. The Dow Industrials rose 376, the Nasdaq added 173 and the S&P 500 jumped 46.
