The CDC is fighting to keep its COVID cruise regulations in place and told a federal judge that without them, there is an increased risk of coronavirus spread in the U.S. The CDC appealed a federal judge’s order in a lawsuit against the agency brought by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis that would turn its regulations for how cruise companies can operate in that state into mere recommendations.
The rush to ship goods from Asia to consumer markets in the U.S. and Europe is driving up container shipping rates at a historic pace. A months-long expansion in prices has kicked into a higher gear since early May, and some cargo owners are being offered rates of more than $20,000 in last-minute deals to get on ships leaving ports in China. Industry executives expect the bidding war to continue through the end of the year.
