Predicting a “brighter year ahead,” Expedia says the impact of omicron on travel was not as severe as previous COVID disruptions. Expedia’s gross bookings totaled $17.5 billion in the final quarter of 2021, an increase of 131% from the end of 2020. The company says the “travel industry and traveling public prove more resilient with each passing wave,” and it continues to expect a solid overall recovery in 2022.

Home foreclosures surged across the country in January as the pandemic moratorium ended, though they remained well below pre-Covid levels. RealtyTrac says foreclosure filings jumped 29% from December, and more than doubled compared with January 2021. Lenders repossessed 4,784 properties in the month. Measured against the total number of homes, the state with the highest foreclosure rate was New Jersey. Among large cities, the worst foreclosure rates in January were in Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago.
