A federal judge in Louisiana has issued a preliminary injunction blocking the Biden administration from pausing new oil and gas leases on federal land. The judge in Monroe says the administration doesn’t have the legal right to stop leasing federal territory for oil-and-gas production without approval from Congress. He also says states suing the federal government—largely southern and coastal states—will be harmed as the pause prevents them from collecting lease bids and bonuses from oil-and-gas prospectors.
FedEx Freight is immediately cutting service to about 1,400 less-than-truckload customers, affecting thousands of locations including firearms distributor Sports South of Shreveport, in an effort to reduce terminal bottlenecks and shipping delays. The heavy trucking division of FedEx Corp. began notifying select manufacturers and retailers last week it would stop picking up their goods this week, leaving them virtually no time to make alternative shipping arrangements.
