Business: N.O. economic activity boom

Economic activity in the New Orleans area expanded at a moderate pace over the past 6 weeks, according to the latest regional assessment from the Fed. Labor markets remained tight and wage pressures grew.  Retail sales were healthy, domestic leisure travel remained solid, and business travel improved slightly.

Cruise lines will no longer be obliged to follow covid guidance on ships as outlined by the CDC. The CDC's Framework for Conditional Sailing Order, which was extended and modified in October, will expire Saturday at which point the health agency's covid guidance for cruise ships will become voluntary. That means cruise lines can choose whether to follow the health agency's guidance or not.


The latest covid surge is complicating efforts to fly goods past transport bottlenecks. Airfreight forwarders are hustling to reroute shipments as widespread flight cancellations crimp capacity, delaying deliveries and driving up costs.
