Business: Oil companies offer no timetable for restarting refineries

Delta Airlines is scheduled to resume limited flights today at Louis Armstrong International Airport. Jet Blue and Spirit Airlines are hoping to be wheels up again Saturday.

Airline stocks slipped after the TSA reported a slide in the number of people it screened at airports -- almost 1.35 million people Tuesday, the fewest since May 11.

Oil companies are sizing up the damage and offering no timetable for restarting refinery operations. That’s being dictated by the painstaking pace of electricity restoration.

Royal Dutch Shell’s primary crew-change heliport in Houma was hit hard by Ida and the company is working to set up a temporary heliport. Rail lines have been reopening their tracks across the state but service to and from the New Orleans area is taking the longest to reconnect.

Two of the country’s biggest employers are rolling out the welcome mat in a big way ahead of the holiday shopping season. Amazon wants to add 55,000 employees over the next few months, while Walmart plans to staff up by 20,000 workers.

The Dow settled 48 points lower, while the Nasdaq picked up 50 while the S & P barely moved, up a point at day’s end. Futures are higher.
