Business: Restaurants may never rebound from pandemic

Airlines and other travel-industry groups are asking the Biden administration to drop Covid test requirements for vaccinated passengers before U.S.-bound flights in a bid to invigorate a sluggish recovery in international travel. A letter signed by more than two dozen industry association representing airlines, hotels, airports and aircraft manufacturers notes the “pervasiveness of COVID cases in all 50 states, increased immunity and higher vaccination rates as well as new treatments.”

The National Restaurant Association says the industry will likely never return to its pre-pandemic state. The trade group says 2022 will be a "new normal" for the sector as it struggles to rebound and as competition for workers remains intense.  The group predicts pent up demand from diners will help this year, but only one in four restaurant operators believes their restaurant will be more profitable this year than last.
