Child raising costs skyrocketing

For the first time ever, the UAW went on strike at all three Detroit car companies, with about 12,700 workers hitting the picket lines shortly after midnight in targeted work stoppages. Union officials kicked off the walkout after failing to clinch new labor deals with GM, Ford and Jeep-maker Stellantis. Workers at Ford’s Bronco plant in Detroit, a Stellantis Jeep factory in Toledo and a GM pickup plant in Wentzville, Missouri, left their posts early this morning.

Just how much does it cost to raise a child these days? A LOT. LendingTree says raising a child from birth to age 18 now costs an average of $237,482, up almost 20% from 2016. And that figure encompass only what LendingTree describes as the "bare bones" required for raising a child: food, housing, child care, clothes, transportation and health insurance.


Futures are up after stocks posted strong gains yesterday. The Dow Industrials jumped 331, the Nasdaq gained 112 and the S&P 500 added 37.
