Despite economic fears, Americans spending on vacations

A recession might be coming for America, but America is going on vacation first. Despite worries over inflation, many of us plan to spend a lot of money on trips this summer – trips that will provide a boost for the economy. We mostly have the means: A big chunk of the savings households built up when the pandemic started is still there and, with the unemployment rate at a 50-plus year low, paychecks are steady.

DirecTV has struck a multiyear deal to continue broadcasting the NFL’s “Sunday Ticket” package to commercial establishments. The agreement, which kicks in this fall, gives DirecTV the ability to use its network of satellite TV installations to connect sports bars, casinos, restaurants and hotels throughout the U.S. with “Sunday Ticket.”


Futures are up slightly after stocks closed mixed yesterday. The Dow Industrials fell 35, but the Nasdaq jumped a sharp 214 and the S&P 500 added 36.
