Godiva Chocolate is closing its 128 retail outlets in the United States, including its store in Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie.
The company says changes in the way people shop, brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, is what led to their decision.
Godiva says it has increased its online sales and has also increased the number of other stores that carry its products, including Costco. Walmart, CVS, and Walgreens.
Most stores will stay open at least through Valentine's Day, a major sales event for candy makers.
