Livestock and crops are sweltering under scorching temperatures across much of the country, adding to the agriculture industry’s costs and threatening production. Chicken and pork producers in southern states are using mist and foggers to keep birds and hogs cool. Cattle are eating less feed in the heat, packing on fewer pounds and potentially costing producers money.
A race is underway to build stronger connections between the hub for U.S. energy trade and the rest of the world. The U.S. has transformed global markets by boosting crude-oil exports more than 30-fold over the past decade, with much of the business flowing through Corpus Christi Bay. With pipelines nearing capacity and U.S. output set to reach new heights, moves are underway to better connect the U.S. oil patch to a fuel-hungry world.
Futures are mixed after stocks closed higher yesterday. The Dow Industrials gained 183, the Nasdaq added 26 and the S&P 500 was up 18.
