The Jefferson Parish government is hiring. It has been. But it’s had trouble getting new employees on board, with nearly 700 job vacancies. Now the Parish council is considering a 5-percent pay raise for every parish employee. The plan is aimed to retain workers looking for employment elsewhere.

Some big news out of Disney. The entertainment giant is scrapping plans to build a new 900-million-dollar campus near Orlando that would have brought some 2,000 jobs to Florida from Southern California. It cited “changing business conditions,” but the decision comes at a time the company is openly feuding with the state’s Republican governor, Ron DeSantis.
On Wall Street, markets opened higher as stocks try to continue their hot streak. It’s been fueled by relieved investors, who seem encouraged by continued reports of progress with lawmakers’ negotiations to raise the nation’s debt ceiling.
