Driving and walking along the Endymion parade route, it as hard to find anyone camped out ahead of the festivities, despite the rather pleasant weather. A large police presence was very visible, setting up and checking barricades along the neutral ground.
One group of revelers stood out among the sparsity of a crowd, with a small setup of chairs and a boombox. They emphasized that they’ve been setting up at the same spot for many years and expect more Endymion enthusiasts who do the same to come out en masse tomorrow evening.
Speaking to the group, none seemed deterred by enhanced enforcement being a focal point this season. They said the regular Endymion crowd they know already adhere to the rules being emphasized this season. The group also said while they are expecting more people to set up at their usual places along the route as Saturday draws near, it’s hard not to see the enhanced police presence and think it will deter those who might otherwise break the rules.
