New Orleans Police say an 8-year-old girl was shot in the head Monday afternoon in Algiers.
Officers and paramedics were called to the scene in the 2900 block of Lawrence St. shortly before 2 p.m.
The child was listed in critical condition.

Crimestoppers has doubled its reward to $5,000 for tips that help police solve the case.
"We should never stand silent when a child has been harmed," said Crimestoppers President and CEO Darlene Cusanza. "We urge anyone with information to help bring this perpetrator to justice to speak up."
Callers to Crimestoppers do not have to leave their names and may be eligible for a cash reward.
