The Coast Guard Wednesday night suspended the search for a missing man in Mississippi River near Jefferson Heights.
"Missing is Elisander Alvardo, 44, last seen wearing coveralls and no life jacket," according to a news release.
They started searching for the barge worker after Watchstanders with Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call Tuesday afternoon from by Zito Fleeting.
"One of their barge workers had fallen overboard near Mile Marker 105 in Jefferson Parish."
The Coast Guard says crews searched approximately 114 square nautical miles.
Coast Guard Station New Orleans sent a 29-Foot Response Boat and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter. The Jefferson Parish Sheriffs office sent a helicopter and a JP marine unit boat.
