NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos submitted her resignation to President Trump Thursday night, citing the attack by pro-Trump supporters on the U.S. Capitol.
“We should be highlighting and celebrating your administration’s many accomplishments on behalf of the American people," DeVos wrote in the resignation letter. “Instead, we are left to clean up the mess caused by violent protesters overrunning the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to undermine the people’s business.”
“That behavior was unconscionable for our country,” she added. “There is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had on the situation, and it is the inflection point for me.”
She said her resignation is effective Friday.
DeVos is the second cabinet secretary to resign. Earlier Thursday, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao also resigned.
On Wednesday night, DeVos said in a statement citing the violence, that "we must set a better example" for children.
