Scoot: Former law enforcement officers denounce Pretti shooting

While I hate the hypocrisy that shrouds any political discussion today, it was impossible to not talk about the significance of the killing of an American citizen in Minnesota. The appearance of a heavy-handed government law enforcement officer killing a citizen when the officer's life does not appear to be threatened in any way is a disturbing reality that all Americans can relate too.

I have talked and written about the shooting death of Alex Pretti.  I agree that Pretti should not have had a gun on him, even if he was carrying the gun legally.  Guns should not be present in situations where conflict is possible and while there was no organized protest in the vicinity of Pretti, he knew he was in territory where border and ICE agents were present and should not have had a gun.  But citizens are arrested and guns are confiscated for numerous reasons when citizens inappropriately carry a gun.  Citizens are not executed for inappropriately carrying guns.

During my talk show today, a caller named J.R., said he had 25 years of law enforcement experience and supported my observation that the border agents should not have shot Pretti.  J.R. talked about his training and the lack of training for many of these agents on the streets with guns saying that it’s an insult to him that they have much less training and are supposed to have equal respect as any law enforcement officer.  J.R. was irate about the agents wearing masks and pointed out that law enforcement officers across America don’t wear masks and wear badges with numbers and uniforms with their names on them.

There were other callers and texts that agreed with my observations that the administration’s agents had the wrong attitude and did not have to shoot and kill an American citizen.
