The founder and CEO of the Texas Roadhouse restaurant chain, 65-year-old W. Kent Taylor, committed suicide last week after what reports say was due to long-term symptoms of a recent COVID-19 infection.
Taylor took his own life Thursday, the restaurant chain said in a statement.
Reports say Taylor had been experiencing debilitating post-COVID symptoms including severe tinnitus, or ringing in the ear.
“Kent battled and fought hard like the former track champion that he was, but the suffering that greatly intensified in recent days became unbearable,” a statement from the company and family said.
Texas Roadhouse was founded in Indiana in February 1993 and has over 600 locations around the world including in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates. Qatar, Philippines, Taiwan, Mexico, China, and South Korea. The company's corporate headquarters remains in Louisiville, Kentucky - Taylor's hometown.
