RYE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — A little girl from Rye, New York is being praised as a hero after she jumped into action and tried to save a building that caught on fire.

The flames broke out Thursday at an apartment building, according to Rye police.

They say Ali Gonzalez, a girl who lived next to the building, saw the flames and rushed to help before emergency crews could get there.

Ring camera video from the neighbor’s home captured the 10-year-old running to grab a hose and begin spraying water at a window as smoke poured out of it.

Firefighters arrived shortly after and directed Gonzalez from the building as they worked to put out the flames.

The fire was put out safely and Gonzalez was praised by local authorities.

In an Instagram post, Rye Police posted the video showing the 10-year-old’s heroic actions while thanking her for her quick work.

“We do want to recognize the bravery of a young lady by the name of Ali who instinctively ran out of her home and got her neighbor’s hose in an attempt to put out the fire,” the post read. “We applaud you Ali, great job!”
