Heinz History Center To Host Event On Rocky Bleier's Time In Vietnam

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - He’s one of the most celebrated Steelers in history but what makes Rocky Bleier a real hero is his service to his country during Vietnam.

On July 8, the Heinz History Center will host the legendary Steelers running back for a special evening program to discuss his time in the service.

The event is being presented in conjunction with the History Center’s “The Vietnam War: 1945-1975” exhibition and the newest edition of Bleier’s book “Fighting Back”.

Bleier was drafted by the Steelers in 1968 and then the U.S. Army.

While in Vietnam he was seriously wounded and after earning a Bronze Star he returned home.

From serious injury to helping the Steelers win four Super Bowl’s Bleier’s story is one that never gets old.

Bleier will be joined by:

  • Larry Richert, host of KDKA Radio Morning News;
  • John Banaszak, former Marine and three-time Super Bowl champion defensive end for the Pittsburgh Steelers;
  • Jon Kolb, four-time Super Bowl champion, former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman (1969-1981), and a personal trainer who works extensively with veterans injured in the line of duty;
  • Dr. Ben Stahl, President and CEO of the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania; and
  • Samuel W Black, director, African American Program at the Heinz History Center and lead curator for The Vietnam War: 1945-1975 exhibit.

Bleier will sign copies of his book afterward which will be available for purchase and those in attendance will have “after-hours” access to the Vietnam exhibit that features Bleier’s Bronze Star and photo of him while in Vietnam.

Admission to this program is $15 for general admission and FREE for veterans and active-duty service members.
