PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - James Conner survived a battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma to become the Steelers premier running back but his cancer battle was a lot more serious than previously thought.

Conner told hip-hop artist and former college baseball star Michael Seander who performs under the name Mike Stud, on his podcast, “Ya Never Know: You Know What I Mean?” his doctors at one point only gave him a week to live.

“I get some tests done, I got a tumor surrounding my heart . . . doctor told me had about a week left . . .if you didn’t get this treated you got about a week at the rate it was growing,” said Conner.

Conner said tearing his knee in 2015 was a blessing because it lead to the doctors discovering his cancer.

Conner added his biggest inspiration was his older brothers and staying alive for them.

The Pro-Bowler also talked about how his faith kept him strong during his battle as well as watching his old highlights because he says he “knew” he was going to be back on the football field.
