A manhunt is underway in Jefferson Parish after a deputy sheriff opened fire on suspects that the sheriff's office says rammed a police car. It happened Wednesday afternoon near Barataria Blvd. and the Westbank Expressway.

"It broke the glass out of the police car," said Sheriff Joseph Lopinto. "At that point in time, the vehicle tried to get out of being boxed in. It was able to do so. One of my deputies fired three shots into the vehicle."

The sheriff said deputies pursued the vehicle to Barataria and Lapalco Blvd.

"We were able to get the vehicle stopped, ended up getting two in custody, one male, one female," said Lopinto.

Lopinto says the suspects are wanted in connection with multiple burglaries.
