A deadly wreck near Independence last Saturday led to one arrest, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office says.
The crash happened just before 6 p.m. on September 28, in the 54000 block of North Larussa Lane.
"The initial investigation revealed that a 2003 Ford Expedition driven by Antonino Reyes Carcamo, 45 of Independence, lost control while making a left-hand turn and hit a tree causing it to overturn," said Ashley Rodrigue, Public Information Officer for the sheriff's office.
"There were six people, including Carcamo, in the vehicle at the time. Five people experienced varying levels of injury, and unfortunately, 23-year-old Marisol Carcamo Vargas died at the scene," she said.
Deputies arrested Carcamo upon his release from the hospital, on charges of drunk driving, vehicular homicide, and reckless operation.
