The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened Tuesday afternoon.
One person was killed and two are in critical condition.
"At about 4:01 p.m., Seventh District officers were called to Almonaster Avenue near Jourdan Road where a dump truck had rear-ended a disabled SUV. For unknown reasons, the SUV was stopped in the left lane of West-bound Almonaster," said police. "Also, for unknown reasons, the driver of a dump truck slammed into the back of the SUV sending it airborne onto the neutral ground where it flipped over."
According to police, a man outside the SUV who was dealing with the vehicle's trouble was critically injured.
"Another man inside of the SUV was also critically injured. Both were taken by NOEMS to a local hospital for treatment. A woman inside the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene," police said.
The driver of the dump truck remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
