A 12-year-old boy in St. Charles Parish is arrested in the death of 6-month-old sister.

On Sunday, paramedics responded to a medical call at a West Bank home. When they arrived, they found the infant not breathing and unresponsive, according to sheriff’s office spokesperson, Cpl. James Grimaldi.

After an autopsy, the infant’s death was ruled a homicide.
Deputies arrested the infant’s 12-year-old sibling on one charge of first-degree murder.

“This is a horrific and tragic situation; however, due to sensitivity of both the victim and suspect being juveniles, we are unable to comment any further. We have been in constant contact with the 29th Judicial District Attorney’s Office throughout the course of this investigation," said St. Charles Sheriff Greg Champagne in a statement.

Grimaldi did not release the names of the boy or his infant sister. The sheriff’s office also did not say how the infant died or why the death was declared a homicide. The sheriff's office also did not say how the sibling was allegedly responsible.
