A single-vehicle crash on I-12 near the LA 59 exit Thursday morning took the life of a toddler, Louisiana State Police say.
It happened shortly before 11:50 a.m. when a 2011 Ford F-150 traveling in the eastbound lanes ran off the highway and into a tree.
The crash killed 2-year-old Preston Ordone of Slidell.
"The driver and front passenger, who were both properly restrained, sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital," said Trooper Marc Gremillion. "Preston, who was seated in the rear, but improperly restrained in a child safety seat, also sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries."
The investigation is ongoing and toxicology results on the driver are pending.
