3 arrested in rash of school threats
NOPD

The New Orleans Police Department announced Friday that three juveniles have been arrested after more than a dozen schools received threats of violence this week.

"We've made three arrests," said Deputy Superintendent Ryan Lubrano. "The age ranges on them are going to be from 11 years old to 16 years old."

Lubrano said two of the suspects are students at the schools that were threatened.

NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said she believes some of the threats were copycats after word of the original threats spread.

"Obviously, if we started with three yesterday morning, and then by the time I saw you (Thursday afternoon) I believe we had six or nine -- 12? And now this morning, even before I came to the podium, it was 14, and then there are 16. So it is a copycat."

Kirkpatrick said whether the threats were serious or not, they take them seriously -- and the consequences will be serious, too.
