One person is dead and two others are in critical condition after a shooting Thursday afternoon in downtown New Orleans near Tulane University's medical campus.
New Orleans Police say it is the suspected gunman who died.
NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick says it started around 2:45 p.m. when a man was walking in the 1400 block of Tulane Ave. and shoved a pedestrian into nearby bushes.
"We know that the perpetrator stood up and turned around and shot the person who he had initially pushed into the bushes," Kirkpatrick.
The chief said at that time, a Tulane maintenance worker came across the scene and the gunman shot that person, too.
Authorities say a Tulane police officer intervened and fatally shot the suspect.
Tulane Police Chief Frank Young says they are cooperating with the NOPD investigation.
