When Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's deputies Wednesday recaptured escapee Jamarcus Cyprian, they arrested four more people at the apartment where they found the fugitive.
Sheriff Gerald Sticker said Thursday that detectives were executing a search warrant on the apartment in an unrelated case, and found Cyprian hiding in a closet.
It got started Tuesday afternoon when detectives, conducting routine surveillance of an apartment complex on Rufus Bankston Road in the Hammond area, witnessed a shooting.
No one was hurt, but deputies immediately began a vehicle pursuit. The suspects, however, got away.
The investigation of that incident led detectives to the apartment on Quick Boulevard where they found Cyprian, hiding in a utility closet, and armed with a handgun.
Four other people in the apartment at the time were arrested on charges of being principal to escape. Two were also booked on firearms charges.
More arrests related to harboring Cyprian are expected, the sheriff said.
