The story begins around 4:30 Sunday morning when an Acadian Ambulance was taken from the emergency room portal at University Medical Center on Canal Blvd in downtown New Orleans.
A short time later the stolen ambulance turned up in Gretna when spotted by an officer of the local community driving down the Westbank Expressway.
The officer attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, but the driver floored it up to speeds of 80-miles-an-hour.
The chase went through Westwego and into Claiborne Gardens.
Finally, the driver abandoned the stolen ambulance on Stillwell Lane and tried to make a run for it.
He didn’t get too far.
Kevin Arnold, 33, was booked with aggravated flight from an officer, resisting an officer and possession of a stolen vehicle, and that’s just in Jefferson Parish.
Orleans Parish has yet to add on theft charges for the pilfering of the ambulance.
Arnold is currently being held at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
