Will rising gas prices and problems with the TSA sickout at airports have a negative impact on Louisiana's tourism industry?
Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser says, "no."
"We've been successful at the drive market," Nungesser said. "The drive market is big for us, especially with all of the problems at the airports. So we're going to continue to promote all the fairs and festivals all over the state and reach out to that drive market to get them to drive in and come to Louisiana."
Nungesser told WWL's Tommy Tucker that the drive market gives him hope that the state's tourism industry will remain strong despite high gas prices and other price factors that could discourage travelers from visiting Louisiana.
"We're going to continue to promote all the fairs and festivals all over the state, and we'll reach out to that drive market to get them to drive in and come to Louisiana," Nungesser said. "You may not be going as far because of the cost of gas, but we still believe we can pull those people in from our neighboring states for weekends, long weekends, to enjoy the fairs and festivals all over Louisiana."
