An Amite man awaits murder charges after the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office arrested him Friday in the shooting death of his pregnant girlfriend.
The sheriff's office says 22-year-old Demarcus Womack shot 19-year-old Aieron Thomas once through the chest Friday morning.
Thomas was 13 weeks pregnant.
"Deputies quickly identified Womack, Thomas’ live-in boyfriend, as a suspect in the case," said Ashley Rodrigue, spokesperson for the sheriff's office "Once deputies located Womack, he admitted to the shooting as well as trying to hide evidence of the crime. Womack was then placed under arrest."
Deputies booked him into the parish lockup on one count each of second degree murder and obstruction of justice.
