New Orleans Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick says halfway through the year, NOPD is outpacing the national average for crime reduction.
"We keep beating the national trend by almost 50% year over year," she told WWL's Newell Normand. "We are doing very, very well."
Kirkpatrick credits intentional strategy, better use of technology and being proactive among the reasons.
"It is many legs to the stool," the chief explained. "We have done a very good job of marrying it all together."
She said murders are among the categories that are seeing big drops.
"For murders, nationally they are down 18 percent, but we are down 25."
Kirpatrick says other should be recognized for their efforts, likening her team to an orchestra.
"We've got all of the players playing right, but they also are very talented players. I am just the conductor."
She says they also have not seen a big crime spike so far this summer.
