Cops are looking for carjackers that crash into vehicles and then steal them at gunpoint.
There have been some 250 carjackings in New Orleans already this year, and several recent cases happened with the carjackers running into the vehicle they want to take.
The attackers then hold them at gunpoint and steal their vehicle when they get out to check damages.
It happened again around 8:45pm last night.
"The victim was driving eastbound when he was rear-ended by 2 subjects inside a black Cadillac SUV," an initial police report details. "The victim was attempting to get out of his vehicle to assess damages when the armed subjects approached him demanding his vehicle."
The 36-year-old victim complied.
"Both subjects fled in both vehicles down Dwyer Rd."
The report offers descriptions of the carjackers:
Two black males.. "1) thin build wearing a green reflective vest and khaki pants 2) average build wearing black t-shirt and blue jeans."
These crash-carjackings have happened in various locations, including on the Interstate.
The Metro Crime Commission says overall carjackings are 192% higher than in 2019 and 13% above last year's count at this time.
