The New Orleans Police Department is investigating two cases where apparent panhandlers attacked people who declined to give them money.
Shortly before 10:30 Sunday night, a 61-year-old man entering a business in the 2400 block of Burgundy St. in the Marigny was approached by a man who asked for money. When the 61-year-old refused, police say the man stabbed him, then fled.
Around 6 p.m. in the Riverbend, a 19-year-old reported being approached in the 600 block of South Carrollton Avenue by a man asking for money, and when the teen refused, he says the man attacked him, grabbed his car keys, and took off with his Chrysler minivan.
Police say anyone who has information should call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111 or toll free at (877) 903-7867 (STOP). Callers to Crimestoppers do not have to leave their names and may be eligible for a cash reward.
