Sheriff Susan Hutson will host New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond for a visit at the Orleans Justice Center on Perdido Street where he will be the principal celebrant at a Holy Thursday service.
During the service, the Archbishop will wash the feet of both male and female OPSO residents selected for by jail.
The act recreates a key event of Holy Week when Jesus Christ washed the feet of the 12 apostles at The Last Supper.
“We are honored to welcome Archbishop Aymond to the Orleans Justice Center as we help to meet the spiritual needs of those in our care,” said Sheriff Susan Hutson. “We welcome opportunities such as this to lean into our mission of facilitating meaningful connections to community.”
The Archbishop first began visiting OJC in 2016, when he was the main celebrant at a Stations of the Cross Service.
