St. Tammany Parish Sheriffs have made an arrest in a more than two-month old murder case.

It began August 12 around 3am when a man called the STPSO and said he’d been shot.

Deputies arrived to find at 61-year-old Everett Wayne Finley’s home off Wilson and Range Line Road and found the man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Though transported to a hospital, Finley succumbed to his injuries.

After a lengthy investigation, STPSO detectives were led to a former coworker of Finley’s, 57-year-old Robert Dickerson of Covington, as a potential suspect.

While being questioned by detectives, Dickerson confessed to shooting Finley.

He was arrested for one count of second-degree murder and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail.

Dickerson was also booked on one count each of possession of stolen firearms and illegal possession of unregistered weapons.

“I am very proud of our detectives who worked this case, following every available lead to identify the person responsible so he can be brought to justice and victim’s family and friends can have closure,” Sheriff Randy Smith said.
