
An agent of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives is in the hospital after falling froma building while working a drug case in Algiers.
The incident took place Wednesday afternoon at an apartment complex on Memorial Park Drive just off Behrman Highway.
According to ATF special agent-in-charge Joshua Jackson, an undercover agent was working a case when the suspects tried to rob the agent at gunpoint. Other investigators responded to rescue the agent and arrested nine people in the process. During that rescue operation, an agent fell from a three-story-high platform to the ground below. Jackson says the agent was taken to University Medical Center. Officials did not say what specific injuries the agent sustained or what his condition is.
In all, nine suspects are in custody. Jackson says not shots were fired while agents arrested the suspects. No other ATF agents were injured.
New Orleans police, state troopers, and the ATF are all investigating the incident. FBI agents and U. S. Marshals Service deputies are also on the scene assisting.
